TiVo viewers to get Sunrise Weather - 24/7
Announcing the first of many on-demand broadband services to launch through the Australian TiVo media device.
SYDNEY, Australia, Wednesday 22 October, 2008 - Hybrid Television Services Pty Ltd, the licensee of TiVo products in Australia and New Zealand, today announced the launch of the first Australian on-demand broadband service available through the TiVo media device. From today,
TiVo viewers will be able to check the weather on their TV whenever they choose - bringing an end to just missing the forecast for their city through broadcast.
Hybrid Television Services' CEO, Robbee Minicola commented; "The strength of the Sunrise brand with Australians provided an excellent marriage for our first on-demand service. The new 24/7 Sunrise Weather service is the first of many broadband services our customers will receive on their TiVo in the coming months - all at no additional cost.
"Our aim is to provide Australians with control over their digital television experience as well as on-demand access to relevant services and popular content. This launch demonstrates how a once-only purchase of a TiVo media device can drive continued value without any need for subscription services.
Today, no one can afford for their purchase to go out of date or worse yet, come with a string of financial commitments."
Adam Boland, Seven's Executive Producer of Sunrise commented; "Sunrise weather forecasts are integral to our program and our viewers rely on it every day - however in a live television environment it is difficult to continually communicate the weather to viewers with the new Sunrise Weather service on both TiVo and at Yahoo!7 - the weather is always a click away. Having the Sunrise Weather service available on-demand through TiVo means we can continue to keep our viewers informed even after Mel, Kochie and the crew go home for the day."
The TiVo media device converges digital terrestrial television with broadband services and content and delivers them all to the central screen in the home.
The new 24/7 Sunrise Weather service will allow TiVo viewers to obtain both their local and weather forecasts in other cities in Australia up to five days ahead.
